This only applies to models that are not street ready from the factory. Do not waste your time with a two-stroke or motocross bikes as the transmissions, and electrical setups are not adequate for street use. Track bikes and two-strokes can be dual sported out but they just don't travel the roads comfortably. This list applies to ATVs as well.

valid drivers license-and motorcycle endorsement for two wheeled vehicles.

valid registration

license plate

valid liability insurance and proof

brake light/with running tail light

headlight DOT recommended

horn audible at 200ft

helmet under age 18 logic tells us "everyone"

muffler with spark arrestor (keep it quiet to if you don't want attention from the law)

left hand mirror showing 200ft of roadway behind you

Baja design offers dual sport kits for motorcycles that include head lights tail lights wiring and switches starting at $439.95-$489.95

Labor to install these kits is about $195.00+/- just a estimate may not reflect in actual cost.

Single items:

Horn 2.5'' $7.95

Waterproof horn switch $12.95

Mirror 19.95 and up

LED Brake light license plate holder combo $40.00

Brake light switch $17.95

Digital Speedometer $79.95 to $124.95

ATV turn signal kit $41.95

Some dirt bikes require a lightning stator $58.95-178.95 /additional labor required from listed price above.

Note: tires for dual purpose vehicles are difficult to decide on. I have noticed customers looking for alternate forms of transportation. Alternative transportation seems to mean hybrid, compact, or two wheeled rides.

Most men will agree that rolling in a Geo is not something they want their buddies to catch them doing. The average four-stroke motorcycle gets better than fifty miles to gallon. Last time I checked, an automobile with that ability looks like something the little blue Smurfs would roll up in.

I have heard guys in the store even say they are about ready to buy a scooter if diesel doesn't reduce in price soon. Scooters aren't tough guy stuff, but many of them are getting over 90 miles per gallon. When your tank is costing nearly two hundred dollars, filling that goofy scooter sounds pretty nice. I even caught a few glimpses of the guys on O.C.C. cruising on scooters. (Mikey and Vinnie)

Scooters aren't all that bad. The Yamaha Zuma 50, although small in engine size, is offroad capable and has many mods available(exhaust, clutching, bigbores). Nothing is better than trying to beat your buddies, if they are willing to join your scooter gang. New for 2009 Yamaha has larger Zuma 125 with estimated 96 MPG. The 125 with the larger engine size should be a great summer ride. (50 MPH range)

Enough of that scooter talk. The more manly option for a guy is a Dual Sport bike. The best thing about a Dual Sport is the diversity of the bike. Whether your riding to work, or riding to the hills, Dual Sport bikes can take you there. Yamaha for 2009 has really beefed up their line in the Dual Sport category.

The introduction of Yamaha's first EFI Dual Sport bike, the WR250R, has really caused some browse to raise in the industry. At first glance we were all a little skeptical on the size of the engine for street use, but this bike glides down the highway with ease. The wide range six-speed transmission makes higher speed travel no problem. The WR250R does build power at a higher RPM so if you like to run your bike hard, be prepared for some rev's , and passing requires some shifter work. Their isn't a nicer ride for the road user looking for a bike that can save you some serious fuel cost's this summer. Yamaha has several other smaller Dual Sport bikes that are great for women and shorter riders.

Suzuki has two great Dual Sport bikes that have been on the block for awhile. Suzuki's DR- Z400 and DR650, both "S" models are outfitted for the road, and with little help can be trail ready. The DR models are priced so that the average consumer can afford to buy, and ride. The history of these two bikes is flawless so you can feel confident in your purchase.Three of our employee's ride these bikes as daily summer drivers.

ATVs are an option as a short-distance summer commuter. We have street legalized many ATVs, and it's surprisingly easy to do in the great state of Idaho. In January of 2009 side-by-sides are supposed to be streetable as well.(keep your fingers crossed)

When times get tough at the pump it's nice to know the powersports industry has a fun affordable way to get you around the town, the neighborhood, and the mountains. If your looking for a great economical mode of transportation come see us.
